Gartner Inc. has hired David McClure, a former top-level analyst at the Government Accountability Office, as research director of its Global Public Sector research group.
Previously, McClure was vice president for e-government and technology with the Council for Excellence in Government in Washington, a non-profit group focused on improving government performance. He also was director for IT management issues at GAO.
McClure has been involved in both the policy and implementation of information management and technology in government, the Stamford, Conn., research and consulting firm said.
John Kost, managing vice president for Gartner's Global Public Sector research group, said that McClure's breadth of understanding of technology and related government management issues will provide value to government clients and vendors.
"Crucial to our government clients is the role of Congress and senior political leadership in IT projects," Kost said. "Dave has the unique ability to not only speak coherently to technology customers, but he can also explain technology to political leaders."
McClure will be based in McLean, Va.
