OMB nixes duplicate IT projects

The Office of Management and Budget is continuing to clamp down on agencies that duplicate spending on projects similar to those of the 25 e-government or Lines of Business consolidation initiatives.

A recent memo from Karen Evans, administrator for e-government and IT, and Rob Burton, deputy administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, requires agencies to show OMB their internal IT review procedures for eliminating or heading off redundant investments.

Fiscal 2004 guidance on SmartBuy requires agencies to eliminate duplicative IT spending for all projects worth more than $2 million.
