Keane to help DOD fight fraud and waste

Keane Inc. of Boston won a $9.4 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to help implement the new unique identification (UID) policy designed to counter fraud and abuse.
Keane, an IT consulting firm, will provide program support for the DOD as it creates, refines and implements the policy to monitor items worth more than $5,000. The base year of the contract is about $2 million and it includes four one-year options.
The identification program will track items for maintenance purposes. Pentagon officials hope the policy will reduce its susceptibility to fraud, waste and abuse and improve its readiness.
"The UID program will significantly change the way the DOD tracks and manages its assets," said Glenn Giles, vice president of Keane Federal Systems.
The UID Program Office, with Keane's assistance, is working with the Air Transportation Association and the International Standards Organization to make UID an international standard. Work sessions are being conducted to define data standards so there will be interoperability between the Defense Department and its defense supply chain partners.
