Metier lands FBI work for IT portfolio management

Metier Ltd. won a one-year, $2 million contract for software and services for FBI's Enterprise IT Portfolio Management Program, the company said today.

FBI's program is a new initiative to enhance decision support for its information technology management and staff. As part of the agency's enterprise architecture, it includes selecting, managing, controlling and evaluating FBI's systems, applications and assets through its IT Investment Management and Enterprise IT Life Cycle Management processes.

"It's creating a portfolio for FBI so that it has all the performance and evaluation [data] about all its projects are in one repository," said Sandra Richardson, Metier's co-founder and chief operating officer. The work started in August, she said.

Metier of Washington specializes in predictive project portfolio management software and services and is providing its proprietary WorkLenz software and Active Portfolio Services Office services to FBI. The software combines and analyzes project data to pinpoint inefficiencies and risks, predict future work and improve processes.

"What FBI is doing with this initiative is a very forward looking in terms of government ? a soup-to-nuts portfolio from concepts of projects to the selection of investments to management of active projects, then to steady-state and operations and maintenance," Richardson said. "FBI is really leading the pack here with a type of implementation that commercial industry will be mimicking."

Metier also provides its proprietary software and services to the Agriculture, Defense and Energy departments as well as to various large defense contractors, including Anteon International Inc., BAE Systems Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. Its software and services are being used in Defense Integrated Military Human Resource System program. In October, Metier announced that Lockheed Martin had selected it for subcontract work on the National Archives and Records Administration's multimillion-dollar Electronic Records Archives design project.

Founded in 1998, Metier is a privately owned and employs approximately 40 workers. The company does not disclose its revenue, Richardson said. Metier's Web site said it has increased revenue by nearly 400 percent over the past four years. The company is owned by Richardson, co-founder and chief executive officer Douglas Clark and other shareholders.
