DigitalNet wins security contract

DigitalNet Holdings Inc. won a $10.3 million task order from the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide an information assurance solution, the company said today.

The task order was awarded under DISA's $1.5 billion contract for a range of information assurance services to the Defense Department and other federal agencies. DigitalNet will develop and launch an automated tool that will give network administrators and security personnel a way to remedy network vulnerabilities. The task order represents phase two of DISA's Information Assurance Vulnerability Management program, which provides the Defense Department with an integrated solution for protecting its digital assets.

Under a previous $6 million task order awarded in June, DigitalNet integrated a solution that allows network administrators and security personnel verify Defense Department information assurance vulnerability management notices.

On the new task order, DigitalNet's is working with Citadel Security Software Inc., a Dallas company that makes software for protecting computer networks from viruses, worms and hackers.

Based in Herndon, Va., DigitalNet builds and manages secure network solutions for the Defense Department, intelligence community and civilian agencies. The company employs more than 2,300 people in 20 states and three foreign countries. It had revenue of nearly $336.3 million in 2003 and a net loss of almost $10.8 million. BAE Systems North America Inc. of Rockville, Md., is in the process of acquiring DigitalNet.
