GD set to enhance Navy data communications

General Dynamics Corp. won a $19 million contract to enhance data communications networks for the Navy at 16 locations worldwide, the company said today.

General Dynamics Network Systems of Needham, Mass., will improve the server farm and information assurance systems installed under the $150 million Navy Base Level Information Infrastructure program that General Dynamics was awarded in December 2001.

The company will conduct site surveys, complete preparation, provide hardware and software, perform configuration, integrate the server farm and information assurance systems and conduct operational testing.

Under the 2001 award, General Dynamics provides data network services for land-based Navy personnel overseas. The defense company designs and installs upgrades for the data networks and network infrastructure at 81 Navy sites that support 35,000 users. This work should be finished this fall.

Headquartered in Falls Church, Va., General Dynamics employs approximately 69,400 workers worldwide and had 2003 revenue of $16.6 billion. The company is No. 6 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of government contractors.
