Last week, i2 Inc. of Springfield, Va., introduced a suite of data visualization tools called Visual Notebook that the company said can help law enforcement investigators and intelligence analysts better piece together disparate information.

The software helps establish relationships among data points such as suspects, witnesses, vehicles, financial transactions and events. It displays the information visually so analysts can identify gaps in their knowledge.

Company officials said the software can also pull in data from online sources such as Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) and LexisNexis. The RISS program, administered by the Justice Department, began implementing i2's visualization technology in April.
