Cal State consortium seeks homeland security, defense technologies

The Consortium for the Commercialization of Advanced Technology in San Bernardino, Calif., and the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology in San Diego are soliciting technologies from industry, academic research institutions and government labs to support needs at the Defense Department and the Homeland Security Department's Office of Maritime and Land Security, the consortium announced today.

The consortium is a division of the Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization at California State University, San Bernardino.

The consortium and the center will review, evaluate and select technologies with the most promising prospects for commercialization and adoption by the two departments, as well as the commercial sector.

Successful applicants will win money or services that could speed commercialization and adoption of their technologies, according to the consortium. They may receive product development cash awards, market studies, business plans, mentoring and business consulting services.

The two organizations seek new technologies that address military and homeland defense and homeland security requirements. Their areas of interest include decision-making systems; area-wide alert notification; detection, protection, response and recovery for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats; waterside port protection; blast mitigation; detection of improvised explosive devices; environmental health and occupational safety technologies; port and border defense and security; and maritime and land logistics security.
