Putnam wants new requirements

Private-sector companies have taken enough steps to tighten their information technology security that Rep. Adam

Putnam (R-Fla.) does not plan to force improvements through legislation, he said in a Washington Technology Web forum.

"Industry is taking security more seriously than in the past," Putnam said.

However, Putnam said he is looking for the right legislative vehicle to add requirements for including information security in agency IT planning. Options under consideration include adding information security requirements to the capital planning process for IT investments and adding information security as an element of the IT architecture.
