GD increases work at Wright-Patterson

General Dynamics Corp.'s Network Systems unit won a $9.8 million order to provide an integrated, high-bandwidth network system for the combat information transport system at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, the company said today.

The order is the third that the company has won in the past 12 months to engineer, furnish, install and test network systems at the air base. The orders are part of a U.S. Navy voice, video and data contract worth a cumulative $21.3 million.

The network will increase the speed of data transfer by 10 times over the current system and will enable all base functional areas to be integrated into a single network. It will provide service to 271 buildings and 31,000 users.

General Dynamics Network Systems of Needham, Mass., manages large-scale worldwide telecommunication projects and delivers technologies and services to government and commercial customers. It is the fastest growing area within the General Dynamics Information Systems and Technology division.

General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va., provides mission-critical information systems and technologies, combat systems, armaments and munitions, shipbuilding and marine systems and business aviation to federal and commercial clients. It employs around 68,400 workers worldwide and had revenue of $16.6 billion in 2003. The company is no. 6 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of government contractors, ranked according to their prime IT contracting revenue.
