CSC wins Homeland contract modification

Computer Sciences Corp. won a $200 million contract modification from the Homeland Security Department to provide wireless priority service as part of the agency's national emergency communications system, the company said today.

The original contract, announced March 3, was worth $81 million. The contract modification, for two years with three one-year options, makes the total value about $281 million if all options are exercised.

CSC will design, develop and deploy a wireless priority service based on code division multiple-access technology, a wireless communications standard. The modification was awarded under two Homeland Security Department programs for improving national security and emergency preparedness telecommunications in the event of disasters.

The programs offer priority treatment and enhanced routing unavailable to regular telecommunications traffic.

CSC, an IT services company headquartered in El Segundo, Calif., employs approximately 90,000 workers and had revenue of $13.8 billion for the fiscal year ended Jan. 4, 2004. The company is No. 3 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal contractors, ranked according to their prime IT contracting revenue.
