Northrop Grumman wins regional law enforcement exchange contract

Northrop Grumman Corp. has won a multi-year contract to develop an information exchange to assist criminal investigators throughout the Puget Sound region. The 18-month contract has initial funding of $1.25 million, and potentially is worth $10 million.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will build the Law Enforcement Information Exchange, or LInX, system for state and local law enforcement agencies and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

LInX will be a data warehouse system with information from participating state and local law enforcement agencies that can be accessed securely using a standard Web browser.

With LInX, police officers, investigators and crime analysts will have access to databases in Seattle, Kitsap, Snohomish and King counties, the Washington State Patrol and Washington Jail Booking and Records System, and NCIS. Until LInX, these authorities have had access only to data within their own jurisdictions and information stored in national databases.

There will be a six-month implementation period to finalize requirements, build and test the system, and train personnel at NCIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Seattle.

Northrop Grumman's IT sector will provide systems and communications components, as well as one year of on-site support at its facility in Reston, Va.
