NASA moves to guard info

Saying it doesn't have enough employees to safeguard contractors' confidential information, NASA officials proposed changes meant to strengthen protection of proprietary data when it must be disclosed to non-NASA support workers.

A proposed rule was published Dec. 5 in the Federal Register. Comments are due Feb. 3 via e-mail to David.P.Forbes@nasa.gov.

NASA must tell bidders when access to confidential information is required. Bidders also must summarize potential conflicts of interest.

The winning contractor must develop a conflict-of-interest avoidance plan and plans for corrective action if confidential information is not protected.
