SRA International Inc. has won a 27-month, $5 million contract from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to modernize the agency's Medicare managed-care payment system, the company announced this week.

Under the contract, SRA of Fairfax, Va., will redesign and upgrade the Medicare Management Care Aggregate Plan Payment System to add functions such as making partial payments, providing more management information and reporting and improve payment decisions.

The system calculates and authorizes payments for managed-care organizations based on the health care services they provide to beneficiaries. CMS uses the system to process and pay $3.5 billion in claims per month to more than 500 managed-care organizations.

SRA services will include requirements analysis, system design and engineering, software development, system testing and training. The SRA-led team includes the ACI Group Inc. and Maricom Systems Inc.

SRA is a provider of IT services and solutions to clients in national security, civil government, health care and public health. The company has more than 2,600 employees and annual sales of $450 million, and was ranked No. 32 on the Washington Technology Top 100 list.
