CSC lands $27 million Navy training order

Computer Sciences Corp. will develop ship-handling simulators and provide enhanced instructional support under a task order from the Navy Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems.

The task order is for one year with four one-year options, and will be worth $27 million if the options are exercised.

Under the award, CSC will provide shore- and sea-based trainers to help Navy officers improve their mariner skills under the Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling program.

CSC's ship-handling simulator software has been used for land-based training in the Navy for more than 15 years. It recently was chosen for the Division Officers Shiphandling Laboratory at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, R.I.

The Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems is the Navy's lead agency to field systems that support the Total Ship Training Vision. The crew training portion incorporates a comprehensive system designed to help crews improve their ability to navigate and operate ships on the high seas. The system requires that sailors demonstrate mastery of the skills in order to qualify to command watches aboard ship.

Based in El Segundo, Calif., CSC reported revenue of $11.4 billion for fiscal 2002. The company employs approximately 92,000 people worldwide, and was ranked No. 5 on the Washington Technology Top 100 list.
