Motorola gets Toronto public safety deal

Motorola has won a $3.1 million contract from the Toronto Police Service to provide the department with an integrated identification network, the company announced this week.

Under the contract, Motorola of Schaumberg, Ill., will provide the company's automated fingerprint identification system and LiveScan technologies.

Motorola's Omnitrak AFIS/Palmprint Identification System will serve as the foundation for the system. Omnitrak is a fingerprint and palmprint system that provides accuracy and continuous automation. The new system will enable the customer to store, search and match fingerprints and palmprints.

The integrated identification system is part of Motorola's portfolio of integrated communications and information solutions to address critical public safety and security requirements.

The system, which will be installed in two phases, will be completed in 2004, the company said.

Motorola, a provider of integrated communications and information solutions, has more than 97,000 employees and has annual sales of $27.3 billion.
