RSIS pulls in $48M National Weather Service contract

RS Information Systems Inc. won a $48 million contract for information technology and science-related services at National Weather Service headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., RSIS officials announced Aug. 19.

Under the contract, Fairfax, Va.-based RSIS will provide network administration, help desk and desktop support, scientific workstation support, science-related software development, graphics, multimedia and Web site support and systems integration. The contract will be administered through the office of the chief information officer at the National Weather Service.

RSIS has several other technology services contracts with NWS, in Silver Spring and Camp Springs, Md.; Norman, Okla.; and elsewhere. NWS provides weather, hydrologic and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories and adjacent waters and ocean areas.

"NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure used by other government agencies, the private sector, the public and the global community," said Rodney Hunt, RSIS president and chief executive officer. "Our mission is to provide technical support services that are responsive to the dynamic environment of the NWS, with a continuing emphasis on devising and developing improved ways for supporting NWS technical needs."

RSIS provides technical and business solutions in information technology, systems integration, scientific support, systems engineering and management consulting to more than 80 federal customers. The firm employs 1,400 people and had revenue of nearly $200 million in 2002.
