GE unit sets up centralized government practice

GE Access, a subsidiary of General Electric Co., has created a new government unit by centralizing its public sector operations under a single leader.

Mike AtLee, a 20-year veteran of building and managing information technology sales operations in the government space, has been appointed to oversee the government team.

Prior to joining GE Access, AtLee led the government systems group at SpeechWorks International Inc., a voice recognition technology company based in Virginia. Prior to that, he served as director of government/commercial sales for RSA Security Inc., also in Virginia.

"The government market represents a large opportunity for GE Access to leverage its expertise in the Sun [Microsystems], security, storage, networking and service markets," AtLee said.

GE Access, based in Westminster, Colo., is the largest distributor of Sun Microsystems products, including sales to the government. General Electric of Fairfield, Conn., reported revenue of $130.7 billion in 2002.
