Small-business recertification

	Small businesses that receive a multiple-award contract will have to annually certify that they continue to meet the size standard for a small business, according to a proposed rule published by the Small Business Administration in the Federal Register April 25.

Once a firm is recertified, each order under the contract can be counted as an award to small business. Twenty-three percent of federal prime contract dollars are supposed to go to small businesses each year.

Comments on the proposed rule are due by June 24. Comments should be sent via e-mail to Linda.Williams@sba.gov or submitted at http://www.regulations.gov.

Currently, the SBA determines the size of a business when the business certifies it is small as part of its initial offer, and the designation continues for the life of the contract, even if the business grows large during that time.
