Daniels leaving OMB

Mitchell Daniels Jr. is stepping down as Office of Management and Budget director, effective June 6.Daniels likely will run for governor of Indiana, but will not announce his plans until later this summer, according to published reports. An OMB spokesman said no successor has been named. Daniels was a major force behind President Bush's Management Agenda and paid close attention to how agencies requested and spent information technology funds. He advocated better business cases for IT investments and clamped down on redundant technology spending by federal agencies. OMB still is without a deputy director for management as Clay Johnson, Bush's nominee, has not been confirmed by the Senate.
