SI International gets $50 million AF contract extension

SI International Inc. won a one-year, $50 million contract extension to support the Air Force Space Command, North American Aerospace Defense Command and the U.S. Strategic Command.The contract supports command, control, communications, computer, information, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities of the agencies around the world.The original contract, awarded in 1997, provided for a one-year base period and four one-year options. This is the second time the customers have extended the old contract for a year."We're now operating in the sixth year of a five-year contract," said Brad Antle, president and chief operating officer of SI International. "This [extension] will be a seventh year."Antle said the company has about 250 employees working on the program. Most are based in Colorado Springs, Colo., the headquarters of the Air Force Space Command and Norad."Our proven track record in providing Air Force Space Command with rapid, responsive and quality network and telecommunications engineering and installation support for their nationally important space missions was a key reason for receiving another extension on our C4I2SR contract," said Ray Oleson, SI International's chairman and chief executive officer. "The modernization and integration of military space systems is a critical component of U.S. military preparedness in the age of network-centric warfare."SI International of Reston, Va., recorded revenue of $146.6 million in fiscal 2001. The company went public in November 2002.
