Govt. IT industry keeps swift acquisitions pace
The rapid pace of acquisitions in the government information technology industry continues, with purchases announced in early January by Science Applications International Corp. and Information Management Consultants Inc.
The rapid pace of acquisitions in the government information technology industry continues, with two purchases announced in early January.
Science Applications International Corp. has entered an agreement to acquire Quality Research Inc., a privately owned company in Huntsville, Ala., that provides professional IT services, modeling and simulation, training and technical and engineering services to the Defense Department, NASA and the state of Alabama. The transaction was announced Jan. 7. Terms were not disclosed.
Quality Research has customers and technical capabilities in modeling and simulation, information management systems and enterprise IT solutions that complement SAIC's capabilities, said Bill Gurley, senior vice president and manager of SAIC's applied technology group, located in Huntsville.
Dusit Charern, chief executive officer of Quality Research, started the company in 1990. It employs more than 600 people in 21 locations throughout the United States, and had revenue of approximately $63 million in 2002. The investment bank Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin served as an adviser to Quality Research.
On Jan. 10, Information Management Consultants Inc. of McLean, Va., a privately held company that builds IT custom and packaged solutions for government, commercial, higher education and scientific organizations, announced it will purchase the Kevric Company Inc., Silver Spring, Md. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Kevric provides management, technical and scientific support services to both public- and private-sector clients, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Science Foundation and the Defense Department.
"Our companies share a common vision about how this market space is evolving and what our customers desire," said Sudhakar Shenoy, founder and chairman of IMC. "Kevric will provide us with the domain knowledge to help us grow faster in the health and environmental sciences markets, while we [complement] their expertise with our own ability to deliver high-impact solutions based on contemporary IT architectures."
IMC was founded in 1981. The company employs more than 200 people and has offices in Virginia, Florida, Illinois and a subsidiary in Pune, India.
