Contractors warned of fraud attempts
The inspector general of the Department of Transportation has issued a warning to Defense Department contractors to watch for fraudulent letters asking for confidential information. The warning came in response to two letters that Department of Transportation contractors received.
The inspector general of the Department of Transportation has issued a warning to Defense Department contractors to watch for fraudulent letters asking for confidential information.
The warning, announced Oct. 10 through an e-mail alert on the FedBizOpps mailing list, came in response to two letters that Department of Transportation contractors received requesting that the companies register with the Department of Defense Central Contractor Registration System. In each letter, questionnaires were enclosed that were to be filled out and faxed.
FedBizOpps is the federal alert system of government contracting opportunities.
The warning reminded contractors that they can register with the Central Contractor Registration System only through its Web site (www.ccr.gov) and not through third parties. It also encouraged contractors to personally verify personally that they are sending confidential information to an authorized federal official.
