Postal Service taps SAIC for $10 million systems check

Science Applications International Corp. won a $10 million contract from the U.S. Postal Service to conduct independent verification and validation of major automated postal equipment, the company announced Aug. 26.The time and materials contract is for two years with three one-year options.Under the contract, San Diego-based SAIC will support the postal service's engineering office in reducing software defects, increasing documentation quality, controlling software product configurations and improving business processes at the postal service's engineering headquarters in Merrifield, Va. AC Technologies Inc. of Fairfax, Va., an 8(a) information technology company, will assist SAIC. The two companies will focus on upgrading retail and delivery equipment for weighing, rating and tracking the mail in staffed and self-service environments.SAIC is a systems integrator with more than 40,000 employees and annual revenue of $6.1 billion.
