SAIC-Northrop team wins $93 million Navy work

Amsec LLC, a partnership between San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Newport News Shipbuilding, has been awarded a $93 million contract to introduce enabling technologies into Navy ships, Amsec announced July 1.


The five-year contract, awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Philadelphia, calls for engineering services and installation support for technologies that will reduce sailor workload, facilitate onboard training and enhance situational awareness.


The win "reflects a new customer's appraisal of Amsec's integrated approach to accomplish engineering, logistics and installation of advanced shipboard technologies," said Carl Albero, president and chief executive officer of Amsec.


Amsec was established in 1999 as a partnership between SAIC and the Newport News subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corp. It employs more 3,000 people and is headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va.

The company offers expertise in naval architecture and marine engineering, combat and electronic systems engineering, naval ship systems assessments, maintenance engineering and program development, shipyard industrial engineering and logistics services.
