SAIC nets GSA security task order

Science Applications International Corp., San Diego, won a task order from the General Services Administration to support the Federal Computer Incident Response Center, the company announced March 25. SAIC did not disclose the contract's value.

Under this Safeguard contract task order, SAIC will offer a Web-based service for agencies to keep their systems current with the latest software security patches. Agencies will be able to receive notifications of pending software patches that correct known vulnerabilities. SAIC will test patches when they are made available by vendors to ensure they correct the intended vulnerability.

The Federal Computer Incident Response Center, sponsored by the Federal CIO Council, is an analysis facility for computer security related issues that can effect the civilian agencies and departments of the federal government.

Safeguard is a four-year blanket purchase order awarded in 1999 for providing information security services to all government agencies. In addition to SAIC, 26 vendors are competing for work under the BPA.
