Verizon lands $350 million Norfolk MAA deal

Verizon Federal Inc., a subsidiary of Verizon Communications Inc., New York, won a General Services Administration contract to provide telecommunications services for federal agencies in the Norfolk Va. metropolitan area, GSA announced Jan. 9.


The four-year contract, with additional four one-year options, may be worth up to $350 million if all options are exercised.


Under this contract, Verizon will provide voice, switched-data and dedicated-line services to agency offices in Norfolk and the surrounding municipalities of Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, York County and the northern portions of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.


The award comes under the administration's Metropolitan Area Acquisition program for local telecommunications services. So far, GSA has awarded 24 MAA contracts and expects to save 16 percent in telecommunications costs in Norfolk over current rates.


Other cities to be awarded MAA contracts are Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Salt Lake City.
