TRW Washington Operations Taps Roman

Find opportunities — and win them.

Former Boeing Co. executive George Roman will succeed Phillip Odeen as the company's executive vice president for Washington operations.

TRW Inc. has tapped former Boeing Co. executive George Roman as the company's executive vice president for Washington operations, succeeding Philip Odeen, who will retire Jan. 1, the Cleveland-based TRW announced Nov. 29.

TRW's board of directors also will elect Roman an officer of the company. He also will serve as a member of the TRW Management Committee, TRW said.

TRW provides advanced-technology products and services for the aerospace, systems and automotive markets.

Roman's primary responsibility will be to change and expand the focus of TRW's Washington operations and to support the company's businesses, develop new market opportunities and implement their strategies, TRW said. He will play a lead role in representing TRW in key government, industry and business organizations.

Roman will be the company's primary contact with senior White House, Congress, federal agency and industry leaders. He will report to David Cote, chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Roman brings extensive experience in operational management and business and customer development, and his professional relationships with the Pentagon, Congress and other high-level government customers will be very important in providing TRW with effective marketing support and enhancing customer satisfaction, Cote said.

Most recently, Roman served as vice president and general manager of business development for Boeing's military aircraft and missile systems business. Previously, he was vice president of international operations in Boeing's government relations office, and was responsible for supporting foreign military sales and commercial international programs, as well as government business affairs, international affairs and public and international trade policy.

Before the merger of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas Corp., Roman was a key executive in McDonnell Douglas' Washington office.

Odeen joined TRW with the 1997 acquisition of BDM International Inc. of McLean, Va. His leadership, according to TRW, has helped bring growth and success to TRW Systems and the Washington operations.

For the past two years, Odeen has been TRW's senior representative in Washington. His responsibilities included select business development and international activities for aerospace and systems businesses.

Odeen is also a member of the management committee. Previously, he was executive vice president and general manager of TRW Systems. At BDM, he served as president and chief executive officer, directing its growth and evolution as a multinational information technology firm.

Odeen will continue work with TRW as a consultant and will maintain an office in TRW's Washington headquarters.
