Northrop Grumman Wins $49 Million Messaging Contract

Northrop Grumman Corp. will provide technical support for a messaging system used by the Defense Department intelligence community.

A Northrop Grumman Corp.-led team will provide technical support for a messaging system used by the Department of Defense intelligence community and other federal organizations, the Los Angeles-based company announced Nov. 6.

The contract, awarded by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, has a potential value of $49 million.

Northrop Grumman will upgrade and undertake software enhancements and fixes to the communications support processor, an automated message processing exchange. This system undertakes a variety of functions for military and civilian agencies, ranging from interfacing with the Defense Department legacy digital networks to producing hardcopy messages with full classification and handling instructions.

The system "remains the only system that runs as a multilevel secure messaging system for the intelligence community," said Larry Braddy, CSPM program manager, Northrop Grumman Information Technology. Northrop Grumman has supported the system for 23 years.

Northrop Grumman's team includes Engineering/Documentation Systems Inc., Yorba Linda, Calif., which will provide engineering support. Other members of the team were not disclosed.

Engineering/Documentation Systems was also recently picked by Computer Sciences Corp., El Segundo, Calif., to provide professional support services to the Naval Sea Systems Command, and by Electronic Data Systems Corp., Plano, Texas, for its Navy Marine Corps Intranet contract.
