Maximus Inc. won an $8 million subcontract for part of an electronic benefits transfer project by the California Health and Human Services Data Center.

Maximus Inc. has won a three-year subcontract worth more than $8 million to provide consulting services as part of an electronic benefits transfer project by the California Health and Human Services Data Center, the company announced Oct. 10.

Maximus of Reston, Va., will serve as a subcontractor to Eskel Porter Consulting Inc. of Sacramento, Calif. The work should be completed by Nov. 30, 2004.

EBT is the electronic authorization and distribution of government benefits and services. The goal of California's EBT project is to automate delivery, redemption and reconciliation of food stamp and cash program benefits administered by the state's 58 counties.

Maximus' Intelligent Technologies Division will provide consulting support throughout system development, including design, development and implementation. The division has provided support to more than 40 states in planning, procurement, implementation and operational support of EBT programs.

Eskel Porter Consulting, a consulting and staffing firm, has a long history of working with the California Health and Human Services Data Center and all state counties on various technology projects.

Maximus is a government services company specializing in providing state and local governments with program management, information technology and consulting services. It has more than 4,700 employees and annual revenue of $399 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
