PEC Solutions Inc.has been awarded a five-year task order to develop and support the Justice Department's Joint Automated Booking System.

PEC Solutions Inc. of Fairfax, Va., announced Aug. 20 it has been awarded a five-year task order to develop and support the Justice Department's Joint Automated Booking System.

The task order is for one year with four one-year options; it is valued in excess of $16 million if all the options are exercised.

JABS is an electronic information-sharing project among the five law enforcement components of the Justice Department: the Bureau of Prisons, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Marshals Service. The system will automate the criminal booking process, enabling the five organizations to securely share and exchange information.

Among its elements, JABS will provide rapid identification of criminals via the FBI's automated fingerprint identification system; provide real-time information sharing for investigations; eliminate data-entry redundancies and manual, paper-intensive processes; and establish a tracking system for individuals held in federal custody.

"The JABS task order demonstrates one of PEC's key core competencies ? the development and management of advanced information systems that assist the nation's federal law enforcement agencies," said Paul Rice, the company's chief operating officer.
