CSC Promotes Fed Sector President

Paul Cofoni, president of Computer Science Corp.'s federal sector, has been elected a CSC corporate vice president, the company announced Aug. 17.

Directors of El Segundo, Calif.,-based CSC also elected Mike Laphen, president of the European group, to a corporate vice president position.

"Both Paul Cofoni and Mike Laphen have demonstrated strategic capabilities as well as tactical excellence," said Van Honeycutt, CSC's chairman and chief executive officer. "Their elections are recognition of their significant contributions and an expectation by the board of future achievement as we continue to move CSC forward in a difficult economic climate."

Before assuming the lead role at CSC's federal unit, Cofoni was president of the company's technology management group for three years. Cofoni joined CSC in 1991, after working 17 years for General Dynamics Corp., Falls Church, Va., serving first in technical and leadership roles in computer-aided design and manufacturing, and then in vice president capacities for IT services.

Cofoni is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Society for Information Management, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and The Business Roundtable. He is also on the board of directors of the National Defense Industrial Association.

He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Rhode Island in 1970 and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School program for senior executives in the fall of 1989.
