Healthcare.com Wins Florida Health Contract

Healthcare.com Corp. has won a $1.8 million contract in license and service fees with the Florida Department of Health, the company announced July 25.

The company will help to integrate, index and normalize data collected and used by the department's various programs and the 67 health departments throughout the state.

The statewide initiative, which may eventually involve up to 200 systems, will make use of Healthcare.com's integration engine, enterprise identity management solution and its integration and indexing services.

The project also will support Florida's implementation of the national electronic disease surveillance system, part of an initiative by the Centers for Disease Control. The federal agency seeks to create a national electronic surveillance system by developing standards for the collection, analysis and interpretation of health-related data. Florida is one of a handful of states to receive CDC funding for the system.

The company has several state and local governments using its software and services for their integration needs, and one large state retirement system project, said Shannon Hodges, a company spokeswoman.

Besides Florida and North Carolina, the other states have asked that the contractor not release their names, she said.

In May, Healthcare.com announced that it will be acquired by Xcare.net Inc. of Englewood, Colo. If the acquisition closes as planned Sept. 1, Xcare.net expects 2001 revenue in the range of $60.5 million to $64 million, Hodges said. Following the acquisition, the company will have about 600 employees.
