Illinois Awards Deal for Computerized Victim Notification System

Appriss Inc. of Louisville, Ky., has won a $2.2 million contract with the Illinois Attorney General's Office to provide technology that will alert crime victims to the whereabouts of their alleged attackers, the company said April 11.

The statewide automated telephone notification system will allow victims and the public to obtain around-the-clock information about offenders. Victims can obtain information about an offender in jail or in the court system. They also can register for automatic notification of changes in an offender's custody status, such as release, transfer and escape.

Appriss also will provide a Web-enabled extension of the system, a secure network that provides victim service providers, advocates and state agencies with accurate, timely information that victims need.

Appriss has installed the automated telephone notification system in 10 states and the related Web application in Kentucky, said Rick Jones, a company spokesman.

The company has about 150 employees, he said.
