Va. Taps 3 Prime Vendors for Seat Management Deal

SEPT. 28 ? The state of Virginia has tapped three companies to serve as prime contractors in its first statewide contract for desktop computer services.


The performance-based seat management contract was awarded to Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas; DynCorp of Reston, Va.; and Unysis Corp. of Blue Bell, Pa.


State agencies will use the contract to select the vendor they want to provide seat management services. Each company heads a team of businesses that provide a range of desktop-related products and services.


For example, DynCorp's 13-member team includes Gateway Inc. of San Diego; GTSI Corp. of Chantilly, Va.; GTE Corp of Irving, Texas; and CACI International Inc. of Arlington, Va.


The contract will cover about 60,000 desktops in state agencies, local governments and educational institutions, according to the governor's office. The seat management contract includes desktop computers and related hardware, software, maintenance, support and training.


The state and vendors will host workshops to show agencies how to use seat management services.


"Seat management is an initiative to permanently put state-of-the-art technology on every desktop in Virginia government," said Gilmore. "I believe that seat management is central to our comprehensive e-government program."

Unisys is a systems integrator, technology support services provider and hardware manufacturer with more than 35,000 employees and annual sales surpassing $7.5 billion.
