SAIC Forms Fingerprint Alliance: Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego has formed an alliance with Ultra-Scan Corp. of Amherst, N.Y., to use Ultra-Scan's fingerprint applications.
by Nick WakemanScience Applications International Corp. of San Diego has formed an alliance with Ultra-Scan Corp. of Amherst, N.Y., to use Ultra-Scan's fingerprint applications.SAIC will incorporate Ultra-Scan's live-scan fingerprint identification system into products for law enforcement, health care, welfare, financial and security-related solutions. Applications include fraud detection, suspect identification, patient movement and child-care systems."We plan to use Ultra-Scan hardware and software in our systems integration projects because of the significant improvement in identification accuracy that Ultra-Scan's products offer under routine environmental conditions," said Dana Hall, SAIC vice president and group manager.Through its SAIC Venture Capital Corp., the company also is making an equity investment in Ultra-Scan. SAIC will be a minority owner and will provide Ultra-Scan with funding to continue product development. Mark V. Hughes, SAIC sector vice president, will join Ultra-Scan's board of directors to provide guidance in the growth of the company. "We believe Ultra-Scan Corp. has the potential to develop identification technology that could have a far-reaching impact on the industry," said Hughes.XXXSPLITXXX-Global Management Systems Inc. of Bethesda, Md., has formed a new subsidiary, Atvantec, to chase the document management market in the government and legal markets. Atvantec has its roots in ACS Legal Solutions, which GMSI acquired in July. To form Atvantec, GMSI took its own document management skills and combined them with those of ACS along with ACS' enterprise network capabilities. Atvantec offers enterprisewide document, records, matter and knowledge management solutions."The addition of Atvantec to GMSI's corporate structure significantly enhances our ability to deliver enterprise application solutions to our customers, and accelerates GMSI toward our goal of delivering e-business solutions nationwide," said GMSI president and chief operating officer Tom Reed. "Atvantec ideally positions GMSI at the forefront of the fast-growing document management business solutions market."
