CSC Lands Air Force Deal

AUG. 22 ? The Air Force has tentatively awarded a $352 million base operations support contract to Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo, Calif. The contract will be finalized after a 30-day comment period and the notification of Congress.


Those steps are set out in A-76, an Office of Management and Budget document that tells agencies to look for non-mission areas to outsource to the private sector or justify why they should not be outsourced.


The contract is largest the Air Force has awarded under a-76 procedures.


The Air Force contract will run for five years if all options are exercised and covers support services at Lackland Air Force Base, located near San Antonio. CSC has formed a joint venture called Lackland 21st Century Services Consolidated with Den-Jen Inc. of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., and Tecom Inc. of Austin, Texas.


The joint venture will provide management and base support services at Lackland Air Force Base and support the 37th Training Wing in meeting education and training needs.


The CSC team will be responsible for base infrastructure and facilities, including information technology services, communications, engineering services, and energy and utilities management. The joint venture will employ about 1,000 people.
