The Transportation Department's Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, Cambridge, Mass., is looking for contractors with expertise in smart-card systems. The center, a repository of transportation and logistics expertise, wants information on transit parking electronic payment guidelines and specifications. Specifically, the center is looking for data on transit fare collection systems, parking fee payment and collection systems, and companies with experience in processing electronic payments.

The Transportation Department's Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, Cambridge, Mass., is looking for contractors with expertise in smart-card systems. The center, a repository of transportation and logistics expertise, wants information on transit parking electronic payment guidelines and specifications. Specifically, the center is looking for data on transit fare collection systems, parking fee payment and collection systems, and companies with experience in processing electronic payments.AverStar Inc. of Burlington, Mass., won three Navy deals that should net the company at least $84 million over the next five years. The biggest is a $64 million deal with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division at Patuxent River, Md., to support research, development, testing and evaluation of advanced imaging sensors. The second, $20 million contract will provide the center with engineering, technical and operations support for some H-60 helicopter programs.

AverStar is a subcontract to Eagan, McAllister, Associates Inc., Lexington Park, Md., on the third contract, worth $94 million. That deal will support the Navy's Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems Division in Charleston, S.C.
Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo, Calif., opened a Knowledge Solutions Lab in Falls Church, Va., as a showcase for the company's knowledge management solutions. The lab will demonstrate applied uses of new technologies.

Knowledge management allows organizations to leverage information and expertise from across the organization to improve innovation, responsiveness, productivity and compe-
tency. The market research company International Data Corp. of Framingham, Mass., found in a recent study that knowledge management is one of five key success factors for organizations. IDC rated CSC's knowledge management skills as very strong.

CSC also is a part of the Institute of Knowledge Management, an organization sponsored by IBM Corp. of Armonk, N.Y., for companies to share research.
