Nestor Cano has taken the reins of Clearwater, Fla.-based Tech Data Corp.'s U.S., Canadian and Latin American operations in the wake of the resignation of Anthony Ibarguen, president and chief operating officer. Cano had been Tech Data's executive vice president of U.S. sales and marketing.

Ibarguen left to join the Internet Capital Group in Wayne, Pa., according to a Dec. 6 company statement.


Tech Data plans some internal reorganization rather than seek a replacement president and COO, according to Chairman and CEO Steven Raymund.

In other news, the $11 billion distributor said it will now distribute products from Extreme Networks, Santa Clara, Calif., Mortis Kern Systems Inc. of Chicago and Kenwood Technologies, San Jose, Calif., to enhance its offerings in networking, software and components categories.
Ingram Micro Inc.'s U.S. operations have been recommended for ISO 9002 certification, according to the Santa Ana, Calif.-based technology products and services provider.

KPMG Quality Registrar certifies companies looking to expand their global operations after examining their processes and procedures for customer service, returns, consolidation, operations, configuration, distribution centers, sales and purchasing, to determine if they meet the requirements devised by the International Organization for Standardization.

"This recommendation acknowledges our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and ensures the work we do in the future will be held to the highest standards," said Robert Grambo, Ingram Micro's U.S. president.Bethesda, Md.-based ASCII Group, a 1,500-member organization of independent resellers, will market Qwest Communications International's Internet Solutions, a deal that can turn ASCII into the nation's largest reseller of Web-related services, according to organization officials.

"Qwest expects to recruit many of the top ASCII [value-added resellers], systems integrators and computer resellers," said Nick Kromenacker, Qwest vice president for alternate channel sales. The Denver-based company provides broadband Internet-based data, voice and image communications.

ASCII is a for-profit membership organization that provides bargaining and collective assistance to help reduce costs for independent information technology resellers.
Specialty digitization services offered by Progressive Technology Federal Systems Inc. are now available on the General Services Administration schedule for document conversion services.

Progressive Technology Federal Systems, which recently opened a new facility to handle nonstandard and fragile documents near its Bethesda, Md., headquarters, holds an active, security-level clearance for special government projects, according to a company press release.

The systems integration company specializes in digital asset management systems, digital libraries, imaging, library automation and production document conversion solutions.
