Good news, bad news
Don't be fooled by the 7 percent increase in IT spending proposed in President Bush's fiscal 2006 budget request. Although the IT budget request of $65.1 billion boosts spending by more than 20 percent each at the departments of Homeland Security, Justice and Veterans Affairs, most agencies received only modest increases, and six had their IT budgets cut.

N.J. seeks radio upgrade
The New Jersey Department of the Treasury's Purchase Bureau wants to improve its radio communications system. An RFP may be issued during the first quarter. The vendor will upgrade and maintain equipment and systems. The labor portion is restricted to installation, maintenance and additions to radio communications equipment and systems. Bidders awarded contracts for equipment must be able to provide installations and maintenance.
States slow on Schedule 70
When the General Services Administration launched IT sales on Schedule 70, sales exploded and the schedule quickly became the federal government's procurement vehicle of choice. Federal agencies in 2003 used the schedule to buy $16 billion in IT products and services.
