Air Force picks 67 for $1B rapid sustainment contract
This contract supports the Air Force's Rapid Sustainment Office in its efforts to help the service branch adopt new technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation and digital engineering.
The Air Force has chosen 67 companies for a potential nine-year, $1 billion contract to support its Rapid Sustainment Office.
Only one bidder failed to win a spot on the vehicle, according to the Pentagon's Tuesday awards digest that said 68 companies submitted proposals.
The Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office’s mission is to rapidly find and deploy technologies that can improve operations and sustainment. Winners will compete for task orders to help the office prototype, test, demonstrate and scale emerging technologies.
Some of the specific areas the Air Force wants to explore include automation and robotics, advanced composites, corrosion prevention, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and other technologies that can improve logistics and sustainment.
Procurement documents outline how the contract has 16 technical focus areas including advanced manufacturing capabilities, data and digital environment, rapid and austere maintenance, augmented and virtual reality, and aircraft battle damage repair engineering.
The contract has a five-year base and one four-year option.
