Lockheed's board adds former joint chiefs chair

Lockheed Martin’s board of directors has elected a new member in Joseph Dunford, the retired Marine Corps general and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In a regulatory filing Friday, the company said Dunford will be an independent director and serve on both the classified business and security committee and nominating and corporate governance committee.

“His experience in complex, global operations and risk management, including cybersecurity threats, is a tremendous asset and will enhance board oversight in key business areas,” Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson said in a release.

As JCS chairman, Dunford was the country’s highest-ranked military officer from October 2015 until his retirement in 2019 after a 42-year Marine Corps career.
