DOD issues second award batch for $28B R&D vehicle

The Defense Department has made a second round of awards against a potential nine-year, $28 billion contract vehicle for technology research-and-development services.

Fifteen companies have won the right to bid for task orders through the Pool 1 unrestricted track of DOD’s massive Information Analysis Center Multiple-Award Contract also known as IAC-MAC. Those winners will compete for orders valued at over $15 million each, the Defense Department said in its Tuesday contracts digest.

Awards for the Pool 2 small business piece are still pending with 10 expected and the overall start date for all IAC-MAC work is anticipated for Sept. 30, pending any possible protests.

Pool one awardees are:

Battelle and SWRI also won places on the Pool 3 portion awarded in July for laboratory work in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense.

The overall IAC-MAC effort supports the Defense Technical Information Center, a DOD field activity responsible for the preservation and distribution of research information related to military technology. DTIC also manages the Information Analysis Center network that provides technical analysis and data support to the service branches, combatant commands, DOD agencies and senior Pentagon civilian leadership.

Task areas for IAC-MAC include cybersecurity, weapon systems, autonomous systems, critical infrastructure, biometrics and medical-related services.

This new contract is a consolidation of research services performed under 40 contracts in three predecessor vehicles.
