Lockheed to update visual combat training system

Lockheed Martin Canada has won a $10.2 million contract with the U.S. Navy to update the VISTA system in support of the Center for Surface Combat Systems.

The Visual Interactive Simulated Training Application is a high-fidelity computer-based networked system that provides a training environment for both operation and corrective maintenance tasks on selected combat systems, the Defense Department said.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide development, maintenance and upgrade the VISTA system.

Through the Foreign Military Sales program, this contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy, Japan, Pakistan, Spain and Norway.

Work will be performed in Dahlgren, Va., Norway, Pakistan, Spain and Japan, and is expected to be completed by September 2016.

Funding in the amount of $2.7 million is obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
