SRA hires SBA's Miller

The meteoric rise of Ron Miller through the federal government has ended. Miller, the Small Business Administration's program executive officer for e-government, announced this week he has accepted a position with SRA International Inc. of Fairfax, Va.

Since coming to the government three years ago, Miller has long been seen as an up-and-comer in the federal IT community. He started as the previous Federal Emergency Management Agency CIO, moved to the White House Homeland Security Transition Planning Office and has spent the last 14 months directing SBA's e-government work.

Miller will leave SBA July 2 and start at SRA as a principal July 12. He said SBA officials are dividing his duties up between different people in the CIO and e-government offices, but they are looking for a replacement.

"I will not start off with a specific job at SRA," Miller said. "I'm going to explore with the company where my skills can be best utilized. I'm sure I'll have a lot of involvement in the homeland security arena. SRA will let me shape my role and that is the nice thing about this move."

Miller, who said he is apprehensive and excited about his new position, wanted to continue to work in the public sector arena and wanted a company that provides a diversity of opportunities, and SRA met both requirements.

In his three years, Miller said his impact was helping people think differently about what it means to be a public servant. He said he has emphasized employees need to think like taxpayers and citizens when it comes to spending funds and delivering services.

"I've been in the administration for three years and while my jobs have been exciting, I was looking for an opportunity to rejuvenate myself intellectually and emotionally," he said.
