ACS lassos Texas contract

Affiliated Computer Services Inc., Dallas, won an eight-month, $30 million contract with a local social services agency in Texas to provide welfare and work-force services.

The contract with the Lower Rio Grande Valley Workforce Development Board could turn into a $120 million deal if all three one-year options are exercised. ACS will manage and operate seven full-service work-force solution centers, three satellite offices and the board's business resource center.

ACS also will provide employer services, youth services, community outreach and job readiness training, placement and retention counseling.

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Workforce Development Board serves Hidalgo and Willacy counties in Texas. It is one of 28 work-force development boards created as a result of the state's 1995 work-force law.
