NIH Awards $19.5 Billion CIO-SP2 Contract to 48

The National Institutes of Health has awarded contracts to 48 companies for its $19.5 billion, 10-year contract for information technology products and services.

Under NIH's Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners II contract, known as CIO-SP2, the companies will compete for IT task orders issued by NIH and other federal agencies. The contract includes 27 large businesses and 21 small, disadvantaged and women-owned 8(a) businesses.

A number of federal agencies already are preparing to issue task orders under the contract, said Elmer Sembly, associate director for communications and outreach at the NIH office of administration. "I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't orders already lined up," he said.

"The NIH contract is an outstanding win that underscores the progress we have made since we graduated from 8(a) status," said Val Lyons, president of Sytel Inc., one of the winning large businesses. "We put together an excellent team of large and small companies, and we look forward to providing NIH and other government agencies with high-quality information technology solutions."

Sytel, a privately held e-business solutions firm in Herndon, Va., was on CIO-SP1 as an 8(a) firm. It successfully bid as a large company prime contractor this time around.

The contract award ceremony is set for Dec. 21.

The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract includes nine task areas: CIO support; outsourcing; IT operations and maintenance; integration services; critical infrastructure protection and information assurance; digital government; enterprise resource planning; clinical support, research and studies; and software development.
