The California Health and Welfare Agency Data Center has awarded a contract worth $17 million to Electronic Data Systems Corp. of Plano, Texas. EDS will develop and implement the California Statewide Fingerprint Imaging System. Savings of $11.7 million are projected.

The system will add an identification component to the state's existing welfare programs. EDS will provide a central processing site, including procurement and installation of hardware and software for the imaging system's central and remote sites, system design and programming, testing, documentation, system training, photo imaging and finger imaging identification, and operations and maintenance.

 



The Delaware Department of Transportation awarded Baldwin Line Construction of Elkridge, Md., a contract worth about $6 million for the implementation of a fiber-optic network. Baldwin will provide the network for the department's intelligent transportation system endeavors.

 



The Nevada Department of Information Technology has awarded five $500,000 contracts for various telecommunications services to five firms: AllStar Telecommunications, San Antonio; ComPlus, Nashville, Tenn.; ComTech, Melville, N.Y.; Cornwell Communications, Gonzales, Calif.; and Nevada Bell of Reno. These vendors will provide services to install and repair telephone equipment, communications, cable and fiber-optic wiring for Nevada's Carson City, Washore County and Clark County. The majority of the systems currently installed in state offices are Norstar, Vantage or Executone.

 



Complete Business Solutions Inc. of Farmington Hills, Mich., won a contract valued at nearly $2 million to automate child care functions for the state of Alabama.

Under the contract, CBSI will use its packaged solution called CCMS/2000 to automate the state child care programs for payment processing, eligibility determination, provider management, resource and referral.
