Why culture trumps tech when it comes to innovation

We’ve just closed our WT Power Breakfast on the Talent Wars and while this next event on innovation isn’t technically a sequel, I see distinct threads connecting people and innovation.

Our breakfast on Dec. 7 is titled Creating a Culture that Drives Innovation. The more conversations I have about innovation, the more apparent it is that innovation isn’t a technology issue. The technology is relatively easy. The hard part is the people and changing how they do things.

That’s why we quickly came around to the concept of culture as we developed this event with sponsor Red Hat.

We’ve pulled together panel that includes Stephanie Neill, executive director of the U.S. Digital Service; and David Rosthzeid, director of acquisitions pathways at the Defense Innovation Unit.

From industry we’ll have Yasir Syeed, solutions specialist from Red Hat Federal; and Charles Onstott, chief technology officer at Science Applications International Corp.

I’ll moderate a discussion with them around innovation and what it means, as well as how you build a culture where innovation thrives. Each of our speakers have been involved in projects and initiatives that push an innovation agenda. They’ll be sharing these stories and the lessons learned from them.

We’ll also have an extended period for Q&A with the panel. We think this will be a great opportunity for a dialogue on innovation, culture and what companies need to do. We'll also have the customer perspective and how the challenges they face when trying to do new things.
