General Dynamics lands two Army weapons deals
General Dynamics Land Systems has won two contracts to engineer and build vehicle weapons systems for the Army.
General Dynamics Land Systems, a unit of General Dynamics Corp., has won two contracts to engineer and build vehicle weapons systems for the Army.
One contract, worth $33 million, calls for the company to engineer and manufacture two variants of the Stryker mobile gun vehicle.
The Stryker vehicle carries a General Dynamics 105mm tank cannon and operates with detectors for nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
The work will be performed by General Dynamics Land Systems employees at Sterling Heights, Mich., and London, Ontario, and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2010.
Under the smaller award, worth $15.7 million, General Dynamics Land Systems will provide engineering studies for the Abrams Tank Systems Technical Support program.
In order to maintain Abrams tanks at high operational readiness, the company will recommend improvements and replace obsolete parts. The work will also be done in Sterling Heights and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2011.
General Dynamics, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
